As usual, I am plagued by very specific interests. I enjoy time with my welsh pembroke corgi byrdie, who has very short little legs. I also enjoy botany, or more like figuring out habitats and ecosystems, all manner of flora and fauna. Mostly, because we live here and it includes many of the most beautiful places on earth, we go to places in California. The combination of these interests has special challenges. For example, dogs with six inch legs can't walk that far... we're lucky if we hit four miles, and that's a big day. They are also banned from many beatiful wild places, in particular state and national parks--luckily that leaves us a whole world full of national forests, county parks, and parks that make an exception, where the environmental mayhem of foxy earred dogs is less feared. Byrdie is interested in plants, but largely because they are occasionally tasty. She's really more of an edaphic specialist (Edaphic Specialist Bee is her scientist name), frantically digging very large holes in very wild places to see what's underneath. She does not, by the way, like the automobile, one bit, but since she's pretty small she often gets captured and placed in one anyway. Byrdie is the name she came with from Iowa... she often also goes by Miss Petunia Buttermilk, or the Estimable Miss Queen Bee, and other names.
I have more to my life, most of it crippled by the same kind of specificity you see here (imagine the market for "Hiking with short legged dogs to see plants" as a guidebook), but mostly I don't write about it here.
